This week one of my roommates was smitten with ’90s’ music nostalgia and played songs over and over again. I must confess, it was a balm to my trash-music-loving ear and without even realizing it, Spice Girls took over the day wholly dedicated to spices. Indonesian Bread

It’s funny when my European friend said that not all the breads are called “bread”. For her, the sweet bread is NOT bread, it’s a cake. Back home in Indonesia, we use the word “bread” to all types of bread, it’s a universal word. No matter if it’s savory or even sweet. Bread is not our main food, we eat rice a lot rather than bread. I throw away 90 kg of food, whereas James scrapes 110 kg, Vendryana 15 kg and Sohini 80 kg - each year. We four people waste in total almost 300 kg a year. The girls in the kitchen

In an Xl-sized kitchen of much clatter and laughter, two striking women stand out. I meet Constanze Fürst and Franziska Maderecker during my fascinating week inside the kitchen of a roaringly popular restaurant in Hamburg. Striking not just for their beauty, but also for the fact that they are the only two women in a kitchen staff of 15.
